Dragon Boating
Last Sunday, my firm participated in the annual corporate CNY dragon boat races held at Darling Harbour. Having never tried DB before, yet wanting to try out everything...I joined part of the team. Now these DB races are quite a big thing amongst the big corporates in Sydney. There were teams from PwC, KPMG, Law firms, Insurance companies, finance companies, Council teams..it was huge! Some of these teams have been training for months (they seem to have the time and money to hire the boats and instructors :P too much free time) and take it pretty seriously. At E&E, we only trained twice in the two weeks leading up to the big event :P...hey we are lawyers and have got actual work to do :) haha...Anyway my whole aim was to have fun and not to finish last in our races. We had 3 races (2 heats for the finals and 1 industry race...ie race against the other law firms solely). I took part in the first race and the industry race...and the results were 3rd and I think we may have come in second last to last in the industry race :( (hey remember some of these law firms have been training since Nov 06!). But other than the overcast and drizzly weather we had the entire day...did have fun with my firm and its pretty enjoyable (yet tiring for a first time). A concentrated 1min of pure paddling and rowing in time to the person in front ahaha. Here are some photos from the day:My team...can you see me?
Now I know my friends have been trying to get me involved in DB on Sunday (socially of course) and after my enjoyable experience (serious) on Sunday...might just give it a go!! :) Just to feel the power of the DB being propelled through the waters and not to mention the exercise you will be getting :) haha...also a good way of meeting more new people too...
