Self Declared Public Holiday

Just found out that the NSW Government has declared it a public holiday on 7 September!!! :) Not because of some long lost tradition, someone's birthday or a religious day :P but because...

A PUBLIC holiday for the arrival of the US President, George Bush, and the other 19 leaders attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit will be confined to Sydney, while the rest of NSW goes to work as usual.
Sydneysiders will get their day off on Friday, September 7, to minimise traffic congestion when officials arrive.

Don't believe me? the full article: http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/city-day-off-for-summit/2007/02/27/1172338629331.html

Only in Australia, when due to a foreseeable traffic congestion that the State government can declare a public holiday and yet limit its scope to only those working in the Sydney region (as you know NSW is a large state with plenty more cities and towns) and for only this year ..haha...those poor people working in Newcastle, Wollongong, Penrith, etc haha...well I am not complaining ;) definitely not.

Hmm...what should I do for that long weekend now :P What a nice way to end the month of February...too bad its in September tho haha..

public holiday for bush's visit? definitely than closing up the highway.
what we did was to close an entire section of the highway for his visit. that resulted in massive traffic congestion.
