A moment of nostalgia

My second last day at Westpac. My understudy finally arrived last week (long overdue..) and this past week I have been busy training him up. Needless to say, to teach him is one thing but for him to actually be competent in my tasks without any prompting, assistance, etc is another. Westpac is understaffed! Today (my second last day at work! need to highlight that again :P) I finished work at 10.30pm...yes one of the latest times I have worked so far, it simply cannot be helped...its my last day tomorrow and my understudy has to be able to do my tasks with minimum supervision (I am not too confident about this because it really took me about 3 mths to get use to all the tasks, functions, access, excel stuff...not 1 week). Anyway I am not blogging to complain or whine :P (apologies if it seemed like such) back to my subject matter...
I was teaching this new guy, one of my month-end tasks...a 'simple' GST reconciliation and one of the parts of that investigation was actually going to the bank's accounts payable department and finding invoices that were listed in the GL. I guess that its the fact that I am going to actually see the 'accounts payable' department and deal with the AP clerks (whom all pretty much don't care and aim to leave work as early as possible); getting a listing of invoices that I need from the GL; searching through files for the invoices; matching up amounts, invoice numbers, GST, etc with the listing (ie. vouching); photocopying invoices; and teaching my 'junior' what to look for and how to do it (oh and not to forget the 'long' hours working..haha)...just a moment of nostalgia hit me...and I remember that this is what it was like while I was in audit. Strangely enough...to my friends who are reading this now, whom are auditors in PwC Singapore...its the peak season now, and who knows, maybe some if not all of you are actually vouching (maybe seniors don't do this anymore :P) an invoice or telling a junior to do it :P haha... This is probably the last time I will be doing such a thing, because of my new career coming up :) but who knows...hah ;)
Tomorrow is my last day, and I will miss the people (not the work) I have worked, laughed, and drank with these past 8mths. Well thats life :)
